The style of pillow covers found in India,
can be divided into three categories being, embroidered, mirror
work, and patch work. All chainstich work is native to the
foothills of the Himalayas. It is done by hand on hand made
cotton cloth, in continued stitch with superior woolen or silken
yarn, with the help of a hook type tool natively called an “Ari”.
The mirror work and the patchwork are both native to the region
of Rajasthan. One features small circles of sparkling mirror
and embroidery and the other, ethnic patterns made up of hand
stitched blocks of colorful cotton.
